Can you no longer ask your chemist for medicines to help with minor ailments?
The reason we are asking this question is that there are now fewer pharmacies taking part in the Care at the Chemist scheme. In addition to health advice, the Care at the Chemist scheme also ensures residents can access a range of medicines for minor illnesses for which they might otherwise consider going to their GP. The pharmacist can provide advice and information on topics such as: athlete’s foot, cold sores, constipation, fever, pain, sore throat and toothache. A review of the scheme by the two NHS CCG bodies meant pharmacies were told that the consultation fee within this scheme would be reduced for 2017-18. As a result, from April this year, a number of pharmacies decided not to offer the scheme. Therefore, we are asking members to let us know if they have been affected by these changes.
